Hanna Haltia (MD) is a doctoral researcher aiming to understand how individual characteristics, such as sex and postprandial GLP-1 response, shape the biology of adipose tissue in obesity and contribute to metabolic health. Her work takes place in the Obesity Research Unit in the University of Helsinki. Since writing her award-winning medical thesis about RNA interference methodology in differentiated preadipocytes, she has explored big-data analysis methods spanning various types of omics. Hanna is also very interested in the development of new obesity treatments, and she has worked in various clinical medication trials.

Hanna is not only passionate about the scientific substance but also communicating the results to the public and making an impact. She enjoys engaging in discussions about improving academic practices and cultivating environments where researchers can thrive and thus is an active participant in the local ReproducibiliTea (global movement promoting scientific reproducibility) meetings.

Now Hanna is excited to join the first ever FASO ECN Board to help build a stronger network of Finnish obesity researchers and establish the operational model.
