Dr. M. Tanvir Rahman is a postdoctoral researcher in the Mitochondria and Nutrient Signaling Research Group at the Research Unit of Biomedicine and Internal Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Oulu, Finland. His research focuses on identifying novel therapeutic strategies by targeting mitochondrial pathways, particularly in the context of obesity and metabolic dysfunction. As mitochondria play a central role in metabolic health and disease, he is committed to understanding the underlying mechanisms and translating these findings into future diagnostic and therapeutic applications.

Tanvir earned his PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine from the University of Oulu in 2022. His doctoral research explored the physiological functions of the mitochondrial fatty acid synthesis (mtFAS) pathway, including protein lipoylation, mitochondrial DNA maintenance, protein interactions, and respiratory function, resulting in publications in Nature Communications and other peer-reviewed journals. Since completing his PhD, he has continued to investigate mitochondria-targeted approaches for the treatment of obesity and metabolic diseases. He also holds an MSc in Protein Science and Biotechnology from the University of Oulu and a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy.

Beyond his research, Tanvir actively contributes to scientific community building and event organization. He has served on the organizing committee of the Mitochondria Summer School 2025, coordinates the Biocenter Oulu Early Career Club, and is a board member of Oulun Biotieteellinen Seura ry. As a member of the FASO Early Career Network Board, he looks forward to fostering an inclusive, supportive, and dynamic community where early-career researchers can connect, develop professionally, and actively contribute to the field of obesity research.
